Beyond the Superficial

Birth isn’t and can’t ever…

be anything less than transformative. For it to be transformative we must see beyond ourselves, beyond this space and time, beyond what we think we know and understand about birth and transformation. We must concede to the fact that it is well beyond any level of our understanding. Trivializing the power of birth, distilling it down to an ‘I DID IT’ moment image is simply reckless.

Don’t think for a second that having a photographer at your birth is just for the gram.

Beyond the Narrative

This is just a trend...

Or is it? I think that openly having the conversation about our bodies and birth as women is all but lost. Sure, now we are flooded with imagery of birth, the scary sensationalized trauma or euphoria because it’s becoming the new ‘thing’ but is it helping? How we birth and what it looks like isn’t something to ‘achieve’. Our obsession with comparison (and overconsumption of someone else’s story) will never replace the medicine that is sharing in circle with maiden, mother and crone. Sitting with wise women will never be a trend, it will forever be necessary to our vitality and evolution as women.

Deciding to have a doula at our birth was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. As first-time parents, we couldn’t have imagined how physical and emotional the birth process would end up being for both of us. Twyla’s extensive experience as a doula meant that we had extra context and information for what doctors and nurses were telling us. In my opinion, words don’t do justice to the service that Twyla provides. She stayed with us for almost three full days for our long labor that started as a planned home birth that took us to the hospital and finally to the operating room for a C-section. Twyla was there for all of it. I often tell people that our doula kept us alive! I really do feel that way. I truly don’t know how we could have done it without Twyla

My husband said it best when he called Twyla our angel. Her presence in our birth experience brought peace and knowledge in what was needed to help me progress. She was physically, mentally and emotionally involved in all the right ways. She was EXACTLY who we needed in the room with the birth of our son. And then her photos! They are stunning. She perfectly captured my birth and our family through a newborn session. Twyla is a beautiful light and I would HIGHLY recommend her as doula and as a talented photographer!

From our first meeting, I had a great feeling about Twyla. She is warm, and understanding and only wants what is best for her clients. She listened to our story and answered our questions. When it came time for our son to arrive, Twyla was immediately available and provided reassurance during a difficult labor. Her photos captured the emotional experience, we are forever grateful she was there for us.

I’m Looking Forward to Our Chat!

It is so important to have a really clear understanding and expectation for every single person in your birth space. There isn’t room for ambiguity, for uncertainty, or for unchecked energy in birth.

Every person you have in your space is energy and you need to be certain that they are the right energy for you. I want to meet you and talk about all the things – let’s chat!
